Stanislaw Skrowaczewski will conduct the musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra in a concert Oct. 18, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

That date would have been opening night of the 2012-13 season, except that the musicians have been locked out in a contract dispute and the orchestra administration has canceled the first six weeks of the season.

Skrowaczewski served as music director from 1960 to 1979. He is currently conductor laureate and generally returns to the Minnesota podium once a season. He also still composes music. His participation in the Oct. 18 concert indicates sympathy with the musicians in the contentious labor dispute. Skrowaczewski was music director when Orchestra Hall was opened in 1974. The program for the Oct. 18 concert will be announced this week. The musicians' web site is here.
