Macy's also said it plans to close about 100 stores next year. Macy's shares closed the week at $39.82; Kohl's finished at $44.94.

Scorched: SunPower shares tumbled 30 percent to $10.39 Wednesday after the solar products and service company said its power plant business is struggling amid growing competition and project delays. The stock ended the week at $10.85.

Dose of trouble: Perrigo sank 10.5 percent to $85.10 Wednesday after the pharmaceuticals company cut its guidance for the year, citing growing competition. The stock closed Friday at $87.96.

On the mend: Valeant Pharmaceuticals surged 11 percent to $24.87 Tuesday after the drugmaker stuck by its earnings outlook from earlier this year, despite reporting a wider second-quarter loss. The company also said it is undergoing a restructuring. The stock closed Friday at $24.92.

Back in black: Endo International vaulted 20 percent to $21.84 Tuesday, a day after the medical device maker reported that it returned to profit in the second quarter. The Dublin-based company's shares closed the week at $24.18.
