A brief look at new and noteworthy experiences among DVDs, video games, gadgets and the Web.

DVD

Who's watching 'Watchmen'? Like the 1986 graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, "Watchmen" follows the tormented daily lives of a ragtag band of retired superheroes caught up in a plot to save the Earth, and themselves, from the machinations of a self-appointed savior of humankind, who might not have humankind's best interests at heart. The gang's all here: the psychotically righteous Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), the dangerously smart Adrian Veidt (Matthew Goode) and the shape-shifting blue nudist with seemingly limitless power, Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup). The movie exposes the glaring problems with the original material: The dialogue stinks and is filled with clichés. But when it marches in lock step with the tedious plot, the only watch that matters in "Watchmen" is the one on your wrist. The two-disc DVD and Blu-ray (Warner, $35-$36) contain an extended cut of the film, split-screen commentary by director Zack Snyder and featurettes. There's also a single-disc DVD ($29) with just the theatrical cut.

Go wireless as you rock out Sure you'll lose the ability to swing the microphone like a lasso at the end of every song, but you also won't trip up your guitarist as he's crossing stage right. Logitech's new cordless microphone ($75, www.logitech.com) has an estimated battery life of more than 20 hours. Because it's a USB device, it works with most popular music games, including "Guitar Hero," "Rock Band" and "Singstar." Don't try using it with "Karaoke Revolution," though. Sure, it'll work, but it's embarrassing.
