A brief look at new and noteworthy experiences among DVDs, video games, gadgets and the Web.

WEB

Here's what's shaking YouTube (www.youtube.com) was flooded last week not only with news footage of last Tuesday's Los Angeles earthquake but also with clips that caught live reactions to the unexpected event. The funniest, arguably, is "The Ryan O'Connor Show" (www.startribune.com/a/?4566). Hosts Ryan and Nina are goofing off when the tremor hits about five minutes in. "What do we do?" Nina screams after a rumble turns into a big jolt. "I don't know!" Ryan replies, half-laughing, half-panicked. They run for safety, with Ryan racing back to grab the camera. A clip starring Heather the CosmosGAL doing her daily horoscopes (www.startribune.com/a/?4567) has gained attention because the buxom hostess, wearing a low-cut top, leans toward the camera as she bolts. The most popular clips show reactions during tapings of the TV shows "Judge Judy" (www.startribune.com/a/?4568) and "Big Brother" (www.startribune.com/a/?4569). There even were parody clips within hours of the quake, including one hilarious clip re-creating events with gelatinous dolls (www.startribune.com/a/?4570).

DVD

The bugs are back When I was in Scotland recently, I nearly picked up a Blu-ray release of the over-the-top sci-fi satire "Starship Troopers." But when I realized that it would be about $70 after the currency conversion, I decided to wait. Good thing -- today's stateside release (Sony, $29) is much cheaper and has more features, including picture-in-picture goodies during the film. Also out singly is the new "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder" ($39), a disappointing followup -- although also loaded with extras. If you're inclined to get both, go for the "Starship Troopers Trilogy" three-pack ($90), the only way to get the second film.

Today's other top DVDs: "The Counterfeiters," "Family Ties" (Season 4), "Foyle's War" (Set 5), "Get Smart" (Season 1), "Lonesome Dove" (Blu-ray), "Nim's Island."

GAME

A bloody gimmick The new survival horror game "Siren: Blood Curse," for the PlayStation 3, probably wouldn't get as much attention if it were available traditionally on disc. Instead, it's a game that users can download only from the PlayStation Network, episode by episode. You can grab four at a time for $15 or all 12 for $40. But although the game has a cool look and creepy atmosphere, the controls are dodgy and the difficulty, even on the easiest setting, will be a turnoff to many.
