A vehicle occupied by suspected shoplifters took aim and struck a police officer on foot outside a south Minneapolis grocery store late at night, then fled the scene, authorities said Sunday.

The officer got off one gunshot at the vehicle before he was treated for minor injuries from the incident late Saturday outside the Cub at Nicollet Avenue and 60th Street, police said.

The officer "approached a vehicle … of suspected shoplifters" about 10 p.m., according to a police statement. The driver "drove directly at the officer, striking him," the statement added.

No arrests have been made. Police were reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation.

Police late Sunday morning described the vehicle's occupants as a man and a woman, both in their mid-30s. The vehicle is a 2000 Ford Explorer, either dark green or black, police added.
