The Hennepin County medical examiner's office has identified a 58-year-old South St. Paul man killed Jan. 2 when he fell into a grain bin at a Shakopee company that produces malt and other brewing supplies.

Kelly Clifford Hoban was found dead about 9:15 p.m. that day at the Rahr Malting Co., 800 W. 1st Av. in Shakopee, by plant employees, who called police.

Authorities have said the death was accidental. Nobody saw the fall, and it was not known how long Hoban had been in the bin. OSHA is investigating.

Rahr Malting is a family-owned company that employs more than 240 workers and has been in Shakopee since 1937. In November, the company opened a new $68 million malt house and in the process became what is believed to be the world's largest single-site malting facility.

Services for Hoban, a Duluth native, were held Jan. 11 in Duluth.
