Several people fell through the ice on Lake Superior in Duluth on Saturday afternoon, despite repeated warnings from authorities that the ice is unsafe.

A little after 4 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a report that a 13-year-old boy had fallen into the water and was floating on a chunk of ice near Park Point.

An adult who tried to rescue the boy fell in as well before the adult was able to get both of them out of the water. The teenager was treated for possible injuries on the scene. The adult declined medical treatment.

About two hours later, the Sheriff's Office responded to another call about someone who had fallen through the ice off Park Point.

A 47-year-old woman was walking her dogs when one of them fell through the ice. When the woman tried to save her dog, she fell through the ice as well. A bystander called 911, and two deputies arrived and were able to keep the woman's head above water by lying on the ice and holding onto the woman's hands.

Duluth Fire Department responders and several citizens pulled on the deputies' legs to drag the woman to safety.

"The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is advising everyone to stay off the ice on area waterways for the remainder of the season," the sheriff's office said, in its latest release. "This is the second person to go through the ice today and the third within a week, one of which resulted in a fatality. No ice in the area is considered safe at this time."

On Monday, an 82-year-old man died after the four-wheel utility vehicle he was riding broke through the ice on Prairie Lake in Fine Lakes Township, about 40 miles west of Duluth.
