The Twins are 8-7 against the Tigers in the season series, and wouldn't mind making things a little hard for them as they near another playoff berth. ... If the Twins can split this four-game series, they will finish with identical 35-46 records at home and on the road. ...With Trevor Plouffe out because of a broken forearm, look for Eduardo Nunez to get first crack at third base, with Eduardo Escobar also a possibility. ... Joe Mauer was available to play Wednesday despite having some soreness on his right elbow after being hit with a pitch. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire decided to leave Mauer out of the lineup because he wants to play him in all four games against the Tigers. ... Lefthander Tommy Milone should be available out of the bullpen after recovering from a sore neck.

TIGERS UPDATE

Detroit beat the White Sox on Wednesday to lower its magic number for clinching a playoff spot to one. The Tigers are eyeing a fourth consecutive AL Central title. ... Former Twin Torii Hunter had two hits Wednesday in Detroit's 6-1 victory over Chicago to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, during which he's batting .386. Hunter is a .167 career hitter against Swarzak and is hitless in his past six plate appearances against him. ... Price, who was traded from Tampa Bay to the Tigers on July 31, has had his struggles. But he went 8⅔ innings Tuesday to help Detroit beat the White Sox. ... Many suspect that Miguel Cabrera is injured because of his declining power numbers, but he does have a career-high 51 doubles.
