Newly-elected Senate Majority Leader David Senjem said Tuesday he has finalized his leadership team.

The Rochester Republican selected Sen. Julianne Ortman, R-Chanhassen, to serve as deputy majority leader and Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, to serve as an assistant majority leader.

"Senators Ortman and Ingebrigtsen are both experienced and vital members of our Senate Republican team, and have my utmost confidence going into this short but important session," Senjem said in a statement.

"I am honored to have been appointed to serve our caucus in this capacity," said Ortman, who was elected in 2002 and serves as chairwoman of the Senate Taxes Committee. "Controlling runaway spending, promoting government reforms and improving our economic climate will remain our priorities."

Ingebrigtsen was elected in 2006 and now serves as chairman of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

"Our caucus remains committed to our goals of improving the business climate, making government work better and putting more Minnesotans back to work," Ingebrigtsen said. "I'm confident that the new leadership team, along with the entire Senate Republican caucus, can accomplish these goals and more as we move forward in the New Year."

The final two selections fill out the rest of the leadership team Senate Republicans elected last week.

The other assistant majority leaders are Sen. Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, Sen. Paul Gazelka, R-Brainerd, Sen. Ted Lill, R-Lake Elmo and Sen. Claire Robling, R-Jordan.

Senate Republicans elected Senjem to replace former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, who resigned her leadership post two weeks ago after being confronted about an inappropriate relationship with a male staffer.

Senjem will fill out the remaining year of Koch's term and will lead the Senate Republican's effort to retain control of the chamber in the 2012 election.
