Northern Minnesota employers interested in employing veterans can attend a half-day seminar Friday at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

The seminar is for business owners, hiring managers, and human resources personnel to educate them on how to recruit, hire and retain veterans in their workplace. Attendees will learn how to decode the language barrier that may exist between a veteran's resume and the employer. Topics also include challenges area employers face in hiring veterans; solutions to recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans; and best practices developed by employers.

Les Larson, director of corporate recruiting at APi Group Inc., a Minnesota-based company in the construction industry, will provide a company perspective. Minnesota Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon also is scheduled to speak.

The seminar, Leaders in Veteran Employment, is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), College of St. Scholastica, Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.

The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Mitchell Auditorium, 1200 Kenwood Ave. There is no charge for the event. Interested participants can register for the seminar at the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce website.
