Bargain glam was all the rage on the red carpet of the Arcademy Awards.

The night before the Academy Awards last weekend, the second annual gala for Arc Greater Twin Cities brought an elegant and well-dressed crowd to the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Instead of couture, many women wore dresses they got for less than $20 at Arc's Value Village.

The fundraiser is the local chapter's largest of the year, raising money to support community-based programs that help people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Many of those involved with the event have a personal connection to Arc Greater Twin Cities. Musician Dan Wilson's 12-year-old daughter, Coco, and emcee/ "Showcase Minnesota" host Rob Hudson's 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Presley Ann, have special needs.

"It's about raising people's awareness and changing attitudes and the terminology used," Hudson said.

Kim Keprios, the organization's chief executive officer, said she was thrilled with the turnout.

"This is a fabulous show of support from the community," she said. "Incredible volunteers have stepped forward. It's very inspiring during these difficult times."
