Things That Go Faster:

The 100th Anniversary Indy 500 will be run on Sunday at 11:12 am on ABC. Just like every year, they will complete 200 laps around the speedway. I have completed one. I have a ways to go, I guess. This is considered the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing' so go check it out, if not for the fact that the wrecks are spectacular.

The Coca-Cola 600 is NASCAR's longest race of the year, 5pm Sunday on FOX. It is a rare Sunday evening race, and because of the length, many cars blow up. In the past, Tony Stewart has run both races and finished both in the top ten. No one is doing that this year, which is too bad, because it makes it a little more fun to watch. But the time constraints make it very challenging, especially for a racer attempting to maintain points for a championship. Not to mention the exhaustion. Tony Stewart had to have his girlfriend drive him home after the second race.

Kyle Busch... I know, I know. Of course he does, he's a professional racecar driver. Except, he isn't always driving on a closed course and sometimes 45 mph on a city street isn't enough. He was tagged for 128mph, (your move Adrian Peterson). I imagine the officer walked to the car prepared to say, "What's the rush, Jeff Gordon?" Only to be disappointed to see it was just Kyle behind the wheel. No response yet to my tweet to Kevin Harvick if he plans to paint his car like a police car and pit behind Kyle Busch to get inside his head. The $375,000 car was a Lexus LFA with a 552-hp V10 engine... whatever that means. From the pictures I don't see a little hybrid symbol, so it must be straight gas or more likely fuel. This is not a vehicle you drive around town looking to save a few cents per gallon on 87 octane.

Things That Go Slower:

The 2011 Senior PGA Championship is this weekend, on the Golf Channel and NBC. "One of Us" Tom Lehman is the favorite to win the tour's second major of the year.

The Minnesota Lynx* look to become the first Minnesota team with a record over .500 in the last 5 years, it seems. They have a dynamic new superstar to go with some other quality players and may be just what this town needs to jumpstart the winning ways. Good luck, ladies.

How Did This Get in Here:

To get AZGG interested: in what I can only assume was a feeling of "I'm so sick of dating actual famous people," Kim Kardashian said yes to Kris Humphries.

Random Guinness Book of World Records Niche Sport Record of the Week:

Most NBA Players to be Fined for Using a Blatantly Inappropriate Term for a Homosexual in a Single Season ... OK, that's not a real one, but I gotta think we are close.

This one isn't a sport but due to the recent tornado outbreaks, seems relevant. The Longest Tornado Path was 218 miles through the states of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. March 18, 1925, killing 695 people. The thoughts and prayers of all of us here at 'Scratching a Niche' are with those affected by the recent surge of tornadoes. If you're so inclined, find an organization to donate that will use your money well.

1973 - Deep Purple Released "Smoke On The Water"

*I sincerely apologize to the Lynx players and fans for putting them in the slower category if you found it offensive.
