While the Twins are away, the Vikings will play. At least that was the case last weekend, when there were more football players at Target Field than baseballers.

The venue interception was not hostile. The Page Education Foundation -- led by ex-Viking Alan Page, now a state Supreme Court justice, and his wife, Diane -- held the organization's annual gala at the stadium's Legend's Club.

The couple started the nonprofit organization in 1988 to provide financial support and to mentor students. They started by awarding grants to 20 students and this year helped 560.

"For me, it's the ongoing work we do on a daily basis," Alan Page said. "When we stop and think about it, it's great to have former scholars come back and supporting us. To see it actually happen is very exciting."

A night of memories The annual Remembering Our Stars Gala was a memorable night, with more than $340,000 raised for the Alzheimer's Association.

Guests at last weekend's event at the Minneapolis Marriott were treated to a keynote speech by actor and author Michael Tucker, left, best known for his role as Stuart Markowitz on "L.A. Law." It's a presentation he usually gives with his wife, actress Jill Eikenberry, but she was in New York appearing in a new play, "The Kid." Tucker's books "I Never Forget a Meal: An Indulgent Reminiscence" and "Family Meals: Coming Together to Care for an Aging Parent" tell his family's story.

"My mother had Alzheimer's and died of it," he said. "When my wife's mother was diagnosed with dementia, I was able to see the situation in a clearer way."
