The scenic Tettegouche arch at Tettegouche State Park on the North Shore has collapsed into Lake Superior.
Park specialist Jim Bischoff said that the first reports of the collapse came on Saturday, but that it's not clear when the rock arch fell. He assumes it was in the past few days. If it was sooner, he said he would have heard about it, because the formation carved by Lake Superior waves is so frequently photographed.
Bischoff says there weren't any big waves or storms recently; it was just time for it to go after hundreds and thousands of years of erosion.
Tettegouche State Park is located along the North Shore near Illgen City, about 30 miles east of Two Harbors.
