American Indian artists — from poets to playwrights to dancers to musicians — took to the stage at the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in downtown Minneapolis to celebrate the Community Spirit Awards.
The annual awards honor Indian people who have made significant contributions to their community, culture and nation. Honorees included Minnesotans Douglas Limon, a master beadworker, and Anton Treuer, a singer, teacher and storyteller.
The event was sponsored by First Peoples Fund, a national nonprofit dedicated to preserving Indian arts and culture.
