Selfie scavenger hunt

Whitewater State Park, 9-11 a.m. Saturday

Are you ready for a challenge? See if you can find the park landmarks on our list. Bring back your selfies to redeem a prize. You can borrow a camera from the park or use your own. (1-507-932-3007, mndnr.gov)

Universe in the park

William O'Brien State Park, 8:30-10 p.m. Saturday

The University of Minnesota Astronomy Department will lead a tour of the night sky. Get outside to view the moon, planets and more through telescopes. Meet at the visitor center. (651-433-0500, mndnr.gov)

Wildlife CSI

Interstate State Park; 10 a.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. Sunday

There is a mystery afoot. Become a wildlife detective as you collect clues to solve which animal left behind evidence near the campground. Begin this adventure at the campground clubhouse. The naturalist will share hints to help you on the case during the next 24 hours. Then, join the naturalist at 10 a.m. Sunday when the answer will be revealed. (651-465-5711, mndnr.gov)

Holiday paddle

Hidden Falls Regional Park, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday

Join Wilderness Inquiry guides for a canoe trip on the Mississippi River. Cost is $45 ($30 for youth). Trip starts at Hidden Falls park, north gate, and ends at Harriet Island. Transportation provided. Register online at wildernessinquiry.org. (612-676-9400)

Holiday program

Fort Ridgely State Park, 2-3 p.m. Monday

Celebrate the July 4th holiday with a talk about the history of our nation's flag. Nine different flags, from different periods in our nation's history, will be on display in the museum. Meet at the historic site. (1-507-508-2848, mndnr.gov)

Voyageur river rafting

Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday

Discover Mississippi River history and how to portage, among other things. Earn your keep with lifting and paddling. Beginners welcome. Safety equipment and shuttle provided. Cost is $35 and reservations are required by Monday. Call 763-559-6700 and reference activity #315460-00. The program is for ages 8 and older.
