PENDLETON, S.C. — Cleanup continues at the South Carolina Botanical Garden near Pendleton, which was hard hit by flooding from the heavy weekend rains.
Patrick McMillan with the gardens says the flooding from Saturday's heavy rain was especially heavy on the Natural Heritage Garden Trail.
McMillan says most of the trail washed away.
He says the plants on the trail were heavily damaged. The trail includes more than 1,000 native varieties, some of them very rare.
He says workers salvaged what they could during Sunday's cleanup efforts.
The Children's Garden brick pathway also was badly damaged, as was the Geology Museum courtyard and all of the bridges over the creek flowing from Duck Pond.
McMillan says the garden also lost a lot of topsoil as water flowed over the Duck Pond.
