Revenue and user numbers for the sports dome in Savage are up during its second season of use, City Council members learned Friday.

The checkered track record of similar projects elsewhere in the suburbs has had critics of the Savage venture on alert.

But revenues are so far running around $30,000 ahead of last year, according to an update prepared by city officials.

And there's been a 70 percent jump in the number of walkers and joggers using the seasonal indoor dome for free.

The year-over-year jump during December was from 423 to 757. And last month, with fewer holiday activities and fresh New Year's exercise resolutions, it went from 726 to 932.

Bitterly cold weather has affected the facility's use, officials said.
