Saturday: Sex, Lies & Secrets fashion show

The connection between politics and fashion may be far-reaching, but in this fashion show produced by Richard Moody, sensationalism, greed and corruption are recurrent themes in both worlds. On the other hand, it could just be a catchy yet irrelevant title tying itself to the GOP convention. Either way, you'll have the chance to check out fall fashions from up-and-coming local designers Ivan Idland, Arwyn Birch and Renate Adjei (all carried at exclusively at Cliché), plus handbags by local accessories shop Luna Soles. Idland will be showing a collection of women's and menswear featuring his signature bright colors, uniform-esque silhouettes and turn-of-the-century styling. Consider it a preview to this fall's MNfashion Weekend, when all three designers show their full fall collections. The show is part of the Spark24 event, a 24-hour marathon of entertainment showcasing Twin Cities art, music and fashion.

Sunday: The Liberty Parade

If you're a purveyor of democracy but prefer to avoid the connotations that come with being either a Republican or a Democrat, join like-minded Minneapolitans for the nonpartisan Liberty Parade. It will showcase festive homemade "floats" (decorated cars, bikes and other vehicles) and provide the opportunity to "celebrate shared values" such as liberty, freedom, justice, equality and free speech. Beginning at 6th Street in downtown Minneapolis, the parade will travel down Nicollet Mall and end in Loring Park with live music from the Dillinger Four, Happy Apple, STNNNG, Retribution Gospel Choir, the Brass Messengers, and Mama Digdown's Brass Band.
