Mountain Iron-Buhl 97, Maranatha 82: In a matchup of the top teams in Class 1A, the No. 1 Rangers took a 16-point lead into halftime and cruised past the No. 2 Mustangs. Allie Negen and Mary Burke led the scoring for the Rangers with 27 and 24, and Chelsea Mason added 19. Jaclyn Jarnot led the Mustangs with 20 points. Teammates Sami Payne, Elise Moore and Jayzryn Thompson followed with 17, 16, and 15.

Orono 65, Watertown-Mayer 35: The Spartans' Tori Andrew scored 24 points to hand the Royals, the No. 1 team in Class 2A, their first loss of the season. Natalie Smaron added 16 for the Spartans, No. 8 in Class 3A. Claire Killian led the Royals with 13 points.

Maple Grove 57, Buffalo 47: Autumn Mlinar scored 14 points to lead the Crimson past the Bison. Katrina Theis had 12 points and Rebekah Tyler added 10 for the Crimson. Hailey Sorenson, Megan Lowell and Ashley Cordt had 10 points each to lead the Bison.

Trinity 53, Bethlehem Academy 52 (OT): Anna Michaud scored 23 points and Grace Ennis added 15 to lead the Tri Hawks over the Cardinals in overtime. Keely Skluzacek led the Cardinals with 23 points.

Boys' hockey

Elk River 3, Centennial 1: Jack Perbix scored two first-period goals to lead the Class 2A, No. 4 Elks past the No. 9 Cougars. Jax Murray also scored for the Elks, assisted by Perbix and Connor Bizal. The Cougars' lone score came on power-play goal by Carter Wagner, assisted by William Francis.

St. Paul Academy 5, St. Cloud Cathedral 3: In a matchup of Class 1A teams, the No. 3 Spartans defeated the No. 5 Crusaders. Down one to start the third period, the Spartans buried three goals to pull away, as Matt Dahlseide, Dev McCabe and Riley Bowman each scored. It was Bowman's second of the night. Mack Motzko, Jeron Hirschfeld and Jake VanHalbeck scored for the Crusaders.

Orono 6, St. Louis Park 2: Tied after two periods, the Class 1A, No. 13 Spartans scored four goals in the third period to pull away from the Orioles. Max Luedtke scored two of those goals to finish the night with three points. The Spartans' David Burns scored two goals, and Thomas Walker finished with three assists. Jonathan Sorenson and Bauer Neudecker scored for the Orioles.

South St. Paul 4, Duluth Denfeld 3 (OT): Luke Stanefski scored 2:49 into overtime to lift the Packers over the Hunters. Matthew Gellerman led the Packers with two goals and an assist. Samuel Rohrer had a goal and two assists and Miles Williams added two assists for the Packers. Jacob Toensing stopped 27 shots for the win.

Henry Sibley 3, Hastings 2 (OT): Will Koenen scored 5:30 into overtime to lift the Warriors past the Raiders. Koenen and Daniel Napier had a goal and an assist for the Warriors. Charlie Harrity stopped 23 shots in the win. Colin Sieh and Leo Otto scored for the Raiders and Luke Larson had two assists.

Girls' hockey

Blake 4, Breck 1: In a matchup of the top two teams in Class 1A, Izzy Daniel scored two third-period goals to help the No. 1 Bears pull away from the No. 2 Mustangs. Lily Delianedis and C.C. Wallin also scored for the Bears. Gabby Billing scored the lone goal for the Mustangs, assisted by Kendall Williamson.

Hill-Murray 4, Wayzata 1: Abigail Boreen had a goal and an assist to lead the unranked Pioneers to an upset win over the Class 2A, No. 10 Trojans. Ava Bailey had 22 saves in the win. Gretchen Greeder, Nina Steigauf and Lindsey Featherstone scored for the Pioneers. Alexa Ocel scored the lone goal for the Trojans, assisted by Natalie Heising.

Maple Grove 3, Minnetonka 2: Taylor Wente scored a goal and added an assist to lead the visiting Class 2A, No. 2 Crimson past the No. 12 Skippers. Katie Denecke and Mannon McMahon scored for the Crimson. Camile von Steinbergs had two assists for the Skippers.

Lakeville South 4, Prior Lake 2: Lindsay Maloney had a goal and three assists to lead the Class 2A, No. 8 Cougars past the visiting Lakers. Emily Fischler had a goal and two assists and Halle Gill had a goal and an assist for the Cougars. Katie Huntington scored two goals for the Lakers. Lexi Baker stopped 27 shots for the win.

Cretin-Derham Hall 2, Forest Lake 1: Jordan Hansen scored two goals to help the Class 2A, No. 9 Raiders defeat the visiting No. 11 Rangers. Kayla Kasel got the Rangers on the board first late in the first period. Hansen tied the game late in the second period before winning it in the latter stages of the third.

Girls' cross-country

Farmington sophomore Lauren Peterson finished 25th at the Foot Locker National Championships on Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego. Peterson had a time of 18:08.8. Claudia Lane of Malibu, Calif., won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:04.8.
