Shane Kuzmeski and Nico Sturm scored goals in the opening period to lead Clarkson to a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Desert Classic in Glendale, Ariz.

UMD (11-5-2) cut Clarkson's advantage in half on Parker Mackay's eighth goal at 32 seconds of the second. Sturm also had the final foals for the Golden Knights (11-6) on an empty-netter in the third. Jake Kielly, a junior from Eden Prairie, stopped 29 shots for Clarkson.

Arizona State 2, No. 3 Minnesota State Mankato 2 (OT): Walker Duehr and Dallas Gerads scored goals in the second period for the Mavericks but the Sun Devils got the tying goal in the last minute of the third and won a shootout in the third-place game of the Desert Classic.

No. 7 Ohio State 5, Mercyhurst 4: Sasha Larocque's goal midway through the third period enabled the host Buckeyes to edge the Lakers. Mercyhurst, which had three one-goal leads, was led by Taylor Best's goal and two assists and Stefano Cantali's 45 saves.

Bemidji State 3, Air Force 3 (OT): Owen Sillinger's goal with 4:02 left in the third period for the visiting Beavers tied the score at 3-all and that's how it ended.
