The top two boys' hockey teams in Class 2A — Eden Prairie and Edina — treated the fans at Braemar Arena to an offensive show Saturday.

Senior forward Jarod Blackowiak scored the lone goal of the third period unassisted, giving top-ranked Eden Prairie a 4-3 victory over No. 2-rated Edina in a battle of Lake Conference powers. The two teams combined for 76 shots on goal, with the host Hornets holding a 40-36 edge.

Eden Prairie sophomore forward Jack Jensen, who has already committed to the Gophers, picked a good time to have the best game of his young career. He scored the Eagles' first three goals, giving him 12 on the season.

Ben Brinkman scored a power-play goal for Edina (15-6-1) at the 13:16 mark of the second period to tie it at three. Eden Prairie senior goaltender Nick Wiencek finished with 37 saves.

Eden Prairie (14-4-2) has won eight in a row. It was the fourth meeting between the schools, with the Eagles winning three times.

Elk River/Zimmerman 4, Duluth East 1: Nick Perbix's goal late in the second period turned out to be the game- winner as the Class 2A, No. 4 Elks scored the last four goals to defeat the Greyhounds. Teammate Benton Maass scored a power-play goal to tie it at one, 26 seconds after Duluth East's Nick Lanigan netted a shorthanded goal earlier in the period.

St. Thomas Academy 7, Duluth Marshall 3: Brendan McFadden scored two of the Cadets' four first-period goals in a victory over the Hilltoppers. Ray Christy and Willie Reim each had two goals and one assist for Class 2A, No. 10 St. Thomas Academy.

Chaska 6, Benilde-St. Margaret's 5 (OT): Billy Bronson scored 5 minutes, 6 seconds into overtime, lifting the Hawks over the Red Knights. Chaska overcame a 4-1 deficit midway through the second period. It had six different players score.

Holy Family 2, Lakeville South 1: Patrick Reddan scored the game-winner in the third period as the Class 2A, No. 5 Fire overcame an early deficit against the No. 18 Cougars. The Fire's Ethan Mesler tied the game in the second, after Cory Checco got the Cougars on the board in the first. The Fire has won 10 in a row.

Blaine 2, Hill-Murray 0: Will Hillman scored a power-play goal in the first period to give the Bengals all the scoring they needed in an upset victory over the Class 2A, No. 6 Pioneers. Joe Daninger finished with 35 saves for the shutout. Nate Olson added an empty-net goal to finish the game.

Girls' hockey

Hill-Murray 7, Benilde-St. Margaret's 1: Junior forward Abigail Boreen had a hat trick and two assists, all in the first two periods, as the Class 2A, No. 2 Pioneers beat the Red Knights. The Gophers recruit has 28 goals and 26 assists on the season.

Minnetonka 5, Lakeville South 4 (OT): Emma Bigham capped her hat trick with a power-play goal 2 minutes, 3 seconds into overtime as the Class 2A, No. 7 Skippers rallied to defeat the No. 9 Cougars. The senior forward, bound for St. Cloud State, scored the tying goal with 3:03 remaining. Minnetonka overcame a 4-2 deficit in the third period.

New Prague 10, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 1: Catie Skaja had five goals, four in the second period, and three assists as the Trojans beat the Dragons in a Wright County matchup. It was the fourth hat trick of the year for the junior forward, who has committed to the Gophers.

Red Wing 5, Winona 0: Another Gophers recruit Taylor Heise, also a junior forward, had a hat trick and two assists, leading the Class 1A, No. 7 Wingers past the Winhawks.
