U kicker Santoso named one of 20 semifinalists for Lou Groza Award
November 5, 2015 — 9:31am
Gophers sophomore Ryan Santoso on Thursday was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation's top kicker.
Santoso is the only semifinalist from the Big Ten. He has connected on 14-of-17 field goals this year, including a 50-yarder. He has made all 17 of his extra point attempts. Santoso has made six field goals in a row and is 9-for-9 inside the 39 yard line.
Randy Johnson has been covering college football in one form or another since the early 1990s. He was the Star Tribune’s main college football editor on the copy desk for nearly two decades before returning to reporting in August 2017 as the beat writer for Gophers football. Randy has covered a Rose Bowl (Joe Paterno’s 1994 Penn State team), and he covered a John Gutekunst-coached Gophers team that missed out on the 1990 Weed-Eater Bowl. Email Randy to talk about the Gophers.
The Badgers are loaded, especially on offense with Heisman Trophy candidate Johnathan Taylor operating behind what might be the nation's best line. Is this the year Wisconsin breaks through to make the College Football Playoff?
