A man who was killed Wednesday evening in south Minneapolis was identified Thursday as a 21-year-old Minneapolis resident.

Anthony Richard Morgan was stabbed to death in the 2100 block of 3rd Avenue S., police said. They responded to a call just before 5 p.m. Police said a suspect initially fled on foot and is now in custody.

Morgan was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office on Thursday released his name as well as his cause of death: a sharp force injury of the neck.

Authorities don't believe the stabbing was a random incident. A 22-year-old Minneapolis woman was booked Thursday into the Hennepin County jail on probable cause murder. Police arrested her at a residence just after 3 p.m. in connection with the homicide.

The Star Tribune will release her name once formal charges have been filed. LIZ SAWYER
