Key dates

Aug. 28: The first eight members of the 12-man U.S. team will be named after The Barclays tournament at Bethpage Black on Long Island, based upon a points system. The European team names four players based on its own points system and five more players based on official world ranking points. Europe captain Darren Clarke picks the final three players himself in that next week.

Sept. 11: U.S. team captain Davis Love III will name three of his four captain's picks after the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick outside Indianapolis.

Sept. 25: Love will complete the 12-man U.S. team by making his fourth and final captain's pick after the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Sept. 26: Both teams arrive in Minnesota for three practice days, Tuesday through Thursday.

Sept. 29: Afternoon opening ceremonies summon three days of competition that next day with foursome (alternate shot) matches Friday morning and four-ball matches that afternoon.

Oct. 2: The Ryder Cup is awarded after a final day of 12 scheduled singles matches.
