Vox Medusa artistic director Kristin Freya ventured above the Arctic Circle in Norway to connect with her indigenous Sami roots. "Rune" is the otherworldly result. Part ritual, part folk tale, the work centers around Noaidi (the serene Julie Marie Muskat), who seeks to heal her tribe from a greed-inducing virus. A quartet led by Emily Colay ably performs Sami songs while Jeremy Christensen's trance-like videos and music propel the dancing through several emotional states. "Rune" is more influenced than infused by Sami culture but still feels like a heartfelt tribute. (2:30 p.m. Sat., 5:30 p.m. Sun., 8:30 p.m. Tue., 4 p.m. Aug. 13, Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Av.
