A college student from Roseville was struck and killed by a train Friday night in Texas, the Tarrant County medical examiner said.

Yasmin Abdillahi was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened just after 9 p.m. on the 13900 block of Tristan Lane in Fort Worth. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram quoted police saying that Abdillahi was hit after she "walked in front of the train."

Abdillahi, 20, graduated in 2016 from Harding High School in St. Paul and was valedictorian of her class. She had just completed her sophomore year at Princeton University in New Jersey, according to university officials.

"Words cannot begin to express how deeply we will miss Yasmin," said Sohaib Sultan, coordinator for Muslim Life in the Office of the Dean of Religious Life at Princeton. "She was a quiet, kind, contemplative soul. Her friends from back home in Minnesota and on campus are remembering her likewise as a person with a special compassionate heart and great mind."

Abdillahi was originally from Texas and grew up in Evanston, Ill., before moving to Roseville, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help her family cover funeral expenses, travel costs and establish a memorial in her name.

"Those who remember Yasmin will recall a vibrant, intelligent, ambitious, strong young woman," the posting reads. "Those who knew her personally can speak to her kindness, dedication to faith, friendship, and to her future."

She is survived by her parents, a sister and three brothers, the university said in a statement.
