The excitement in Sage Rosenfels' voice was hard to miss last Friday night as he discussed the trade that had sent him to the New York Giants. Rosenfels sounded like a guy who was looking forward to getting a fresh start after what had to be considered a frustrating year-plus spent as the No. 3 quarterback in Minnesota.

A few days into his stint with the Giants, Rosenfels clearly has found a situation that he likes.

"It couldn't be further from what I just went through," Rosenfels told the Newark Star-Ledger. "We had four quarterbacks, and it was day-to-day with sort of what's going to happen. But this situation, I feel like I'm on solid ground. Coach [Tom] Coughlin knows what he's going to get out of me and I know what I'm going to get out of him and the team, and I'm obviously much happier to be in a situation where I know what's going to happen on a day-to-day basis."

Rosenfels is the No. 2 quarterback to Eli Manning with the Giants, so his role is now clearly defined.

Rosenfels admitted Friday that he didn't know much about the Giants' offensive system and now he is getting a crash course in it.

"There's always similarities in offenses as far as route combinations and reads versus coverages," Rosenfels said. "But the verbiage is completely different than anything I've been in. And that's going to be the challenge. Basically, I'm going to be learning a foreign language and trying to relate my old offenses to this offense, and how the pass protection is here as it relates to my old offense."
