The songs from their spring album, "Crater Lake," sure did sound sunny and golden played under a shimmering sun at the Basilica Block Party two weekends ago, but summer has yet to officially arrive for Chris Koza and Rogue Valley. Koza's group just announced an Aug. 13 release party at First Avenue for the second installment of their four-part seasonal album cycle, "The Bookseller's House." This one -- the summer disc -- was co-produced with Mark Stockert at Underwood Studio and reportedly rocks a little harder than the lovely "Crater" material, while also carrying over the themes that Koza mined out of his Oregon childhood. Mastering of the album was only just completed last week, Koza admitted, but I think anyone who knows anything about making records has to be impressed with the progress thus far. It sounds like the Aug. 13 show will also be quite ambitious, with promised "onstage surprises" much like the marching-band-accompanied Fitzgerald show for "Crater." Communist Daughter and Total Babe will open. Click here for ticket info.
