A $150,000 donation of drums, guitars, keyboards and rock-and-roll curriculum is seeking to boost music education in more than 20 Minneapolis schools. Teachers from the schools are receiving training today and Friday from Little Kids Rock, the non-profit foundation that has made similar instrument donations in nine other U.S. cities.

The idea is to not only restore music education programs -- which have struggled or disappeared under district budget cuts -- but to give them a rock and roll flair that connects with kids and their musical tastes. (The group's promotional video shows kids jamming to Led Zeppelin.) Elsewhere, the program has enticed guitar legends such as Slash and Joe Satriani to make public appearances and present the new guitars to students. Dr. Phil has supported the program through publicity and his foundation as well.

The use of the curriculum and instruments can vary, with some schools using them for optional after-school activities and others using them in music lessons during school days. The recipients in Minneapolis are:
