A woman was shot Monday morning in Rochester and collapsed outside her home, and a man who left the residence died nearby soon after from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The woman, 48, was "shot multiple times in the chest and upper body," said Police Capt. John Sherwin. She was rushed into surgery at Mayo Clinic's St. Marys Hospital and was in "very critical condition," Sherwin added.

The man was identified as 71-year-old Fereydoun Behnam from Red Wing. "We are not looking for any suspects" and there is "no public safety risk at this time," said the captain, who indicated the man is the lone shooter in this incident.

"A neighbor saw the female come out of the home and collapse," according to Sherwin. "She was bleeding severely."

The man then left the home, located in the 2900 block of 9th Avenue NW. and was found dead in a car around the corner, Sherwin said.

Police have yet to identify what may have led to the violence.

Cindy Macrafic, a neighbor, told the Rochester Post-Bulletin that the woman had rented the house for four or five years.
