With the headliners Tool and Dave Matthews Band being as far apart musically as Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are politically, two-day passes to the River's Edge Festival headed to St. Paul's Harriet Island on June 23-24 are probably going to be as hard a sell as a tax increase during election season. That makes today's announcement of the daily lineups and on-sale information all the more newsworthy.

Daily tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. for $65 through Ticketmaster. That's not much more than the cost of a ticket to see either Tool or DMB on their own (concert industry trade site Pollstar.com lists the average price of a Tool ticket as $63), and there are more than a dozen other bands playing each day. However, with River's Edge wristbands going up to $110 from the original $99, there's not much of a financial incentive anymore in buying the two-day tickets if you really just want to see one of the days. As was the case when two-day passes first went on sale, single day tickets will be sold without any ticketing fees at Xcel Energy Center's box office for a limited time -- two days only, Friday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.-8 p.m., same night as Van Halen there).

Probably the biggest sales hook for buying the two-day passes is the fact that Tool singer Maynard James Keenan will headline the first night and then return the next day with one of his other bands, Puscifer. Young emo/alt-rock fans might want to catch Motion City Soundtrack and Brand New on Saturday and Mutemath on Sunday. Otherwise, there's not a lot of crossover appeal between the two days. Most hard-rock fans beyond Keenan diehards will only want to see Saturday, when Coheed and Cambria is also performing. Listeners of 89.3 the Current will likely be drawn just to the Sunday lineup with the Flaming Lips, Polica, Delta Spirit and Diplo. I don't think any Scissor Sisters fans will want to show up, period, since the sassy dance-rockers are playing the same day as Tool.

Here's the daily breakdown. Let us know what you think.
