Richfield athletic director Todd Olson, who was an assistant and head football coach at the school in the late 1980s and early 1990s, will return to the head football coaching job in the 2010 season. He will remain as athletic director, as well.

Olson was the head football coach at Edina until he returned to Richfield as athletic director several years ago. He will take over as football coach from Lee Herman, who resigned because of time conflicts with his teaching schedule. Richfield principal Dr. Jill Johnson called me with the news Friday. "I'm really excited that Todd is taking over our football program," she said. "I've worked with him closely as our athletic director and he has a lot of knowledge and a lot of passion for working with kids and he knows the impact sports can have on the lives of young people. His talent, his knowledge of football and his ability as a teacher all are going to be put to good use on the football field." John Millea is on Twitter at twitter.com/stribjohn
