Officials are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for anyone with information leading to the identity of arsonists who set fire to a Plymouth playground this summer.

Firefighters responded to the early morning Aug. 15 fire, which completely destroyed an elaborate new $81,000 playground and still don't know who was responsible.

Now, the Minnesota Arson Reward Project is offering the reward of up to $5,000, hoping someone will come forward with more information about the incident at Plymouth Creek Park — the most popular of the city's 50-plus parks. The new playground equipment was delivered to the park, located at 3625 Fernbrook Lane, and was going to be installed just hours before the fire was set.

No one was injured in the fire, but it completely destroyed a 14-foot sky tower with three slides, swings, a sandbox, a kids' treehouse, climbing wall and other toys. The park's old playground had been donated to the nonprofit, Kids Around the World.

A new playground is under construction now, which should be finished by the end of the month, with a grand opening this spring.

Anyone with information about the arson should call the Minnesota Arson Reward Project at 1-800-723-2020 or the Plymouth Police crime tip line at 763-509-5177.
