SAN DIEGO — A wounded dolphin rescued by Los Angeles County lifeguards and taken to SeaWorld in San Diego has died.

SeaWorld said in a statement that the dolphin estimated to be 1 year old was treated around-the-clock with an antibiotic and flotation jacket to help him swim but went into steep decline and died Tuesday.

SeaWorld says a necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

County Fire Department lifeguards had rescued the animal at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro on Saturday.
