Vikings cornerback Antoine WInfield could miss a month because of the injury to his right foot, according to an ESPN report.
This comes as no surprise given that Winfield continues to wear a walking boot and was on crutches on Thursday. The Vikings have said that Winfield has a sprained foot but that is a vague term and clearly this was not a one-week situation. Vikings coach Brad Childress said last week that Winfield's injury is not the dreaded Lis Franc but obviously the damage is substantial.
We speculated last week that Winfield could miss the Vikings' game Nov. 1 at Green Bay and if he misses a month that means he would be out for three games. The Vikings have their bye the week after they play the Packers and then play host to Detroit on Nov. 15.
One month from Winfield's injury would be Nov. 18 or four days before the Vikings play the Seattle Seahawks at the Metrodome. If he missed the maximum amount of time, Winfield likely would not return until the Vikings play host to Chicago on Nov. 29.
It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do at cornerback in Winfield's absence. We expect that Benny Sapp will start at left corner today and shift inside in passing situations. Karl Paymah likely would play the left corner when Sapp is inside.
