Daunte Culpepper looked to have lost weight and appeared in good spirits a few months back as he worked the lobby at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando searching for work. Apparently the former Vikings quarterback didn't find any takers.

ESPN reports that Culpepper is putting the finishing touches on a deal that will land him with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL and make him one of that league's marquee players. Culpepper was once a marquee name in the NFL but that ended when he tore up his knee in 2005 in a game at Carolina. He spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions after being with Miami in 2006 and Oakland in 2007.

Much of Culpepper's success came with Dennis Green as his head coach and by joining the Mountain Lions he would be reunited with Green. Green also serves as the general manager of the franchise. The Mountain Lions were known as the California Redwoods in the UFL's first season in 2009 but had poor attendance playing in San Francisco at AT&T Park.
