WASHINGTON -- Rep. Keith Ellison is heading to Flint, Michigan later this week with 25 other members of Congress to hear from families affected by the city's tap water crisis.

Ellison is traveling with other members of the Congressional Progressive and Black caucuses, as well as minority leader Nancy Pelosi and some Michigan Democrats.

Michigan declared a state emergency in January after discovering thousands of families in Flint were drinking tap water tainted with lead. A task force has blamed state officials for allowing the drinking water to be so poisoned for so long.

The members of Congress will hold a "speak out" for local families affected by the water crisis on Friday and also meet with federal officials about the ongoing response to help people there.
