On Monday, it will be five years since Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Corey Goodnature died when the Chinook helicopter he was piloting crashed in a eastern Afghanistan on a rescue mission to retrieve a group of stricken Navy SEALs. The rescue was part of an operation documented in the book "Lone Survivor.". Goodnature became the first Minnesota soldier to die in the war in Afghanistan. A little of the story is documented today in an examination of attitudes about the war. Part of the remarkable story of Corey Goodnature is that his son, Shea, enlisted in the Army out of high school and now is deployed in Afghanistan for a year.

The Goodnature family of tiny Clarks Grove, Minn., established a scholarship fund in Corey Goodnature's name, They have a fundraiser/golf tournament scheduled for Saturday.
