Red Wing's Boldt on his way back

April 30, 2013 at 6:14AM

Red Wing's Ryan Boldt expects to be back on the field early next week.

The star outfielder, projected as a possible MLB first-round draft pick, injured his knee last Friday in a doubleheader against Farmington, but an MRI on Monday showed no serious damage. Doctors saw no obvious ligament tears, but cautioned there might be a small tear in the meniscus.

With some rest, he should be able to finish the season.Boldt was in shorts at Monday's practice and kept an upbeat attitude in front of teammates and coaches. He also attended prom on Saturday, just a day after he injured himself.

"When I saw it, it didn't look good," Wingers coach Jim Bohmbach said. "It looked like it [was] dislocated. But they think it's more of a bruise. He actually feels pretty good and we'll at least keep him out a week."
