An apartment complex caught fire Thursday morning in Elk River and was evacuated, fire officials said.

The fire began after sunrise at 365 Evans Av. NW. in the Evans Meadows complex, said the Police Department, which assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.

Other departments helped Elk River firefighters, and they "continue to extinguish hot spots within the building," a police statement said Thursday.

Emergency responders had accounted for most residents "and continue to attempt to contact those unaccounted for," the statement added.

There is no word on what started the fire.

The American Red Cross said it was tending to the needs of 20 adults who were forced from their apartments. The agency said it was seeking shelter for the displaced residents, along with helping them meet any needs for food, clothing or medical attention.
