CLEVELAND — The Texas Rangers say pitcher Tanner Scheppers sustained facial bruises after being attacked while walking in downtown Cleveland this week.
The Rangers say Scheppers suffered a bruised eye and contusion Thursday night. He was unavailable to pitch in Friday night's 11-8 loss to the Indians in 11 innings.
The Rangers say the incident occurred a few blocks from the team's hotel. The club arrived in Cleveland after playing an afternoon game on Thursday in Texas, and Scheppers was getting dinner when the attack occurred.
Scheppers is expected to be available for Saturday night's game.
