Rainfall will seem almost unending for flood-ravaged England this week. Raincontinued to fall through the day Sunday. Now, rain will fall often and attimes heavily over a wide area during today and Wednesday as the result of yetanother big storm.Rainfall of 1-3 inches will soak wide areas of northern England, Scotland,Wales and Ireland this week. Amounts will be higher locally. The area set toget more soaking rain includes Cumbria County, England, where the flooding hasbeen the worst.

In Ireland, the army has been called to assist with efforts to combat therising water levels in Athlone. Officials are working to sandbag high-riskareas and evacuate people if necessary. In County Galway, at least 65 roads areclosed due to the extreme weather.

An all-time record rainfall for England occurred in Cumbria County this pastweek. At Seathwaite, in the heart of the Lake District, more than a foot ofrain, 12.4 inches, fell in just 24 hours. The old record for 24 hours had beena fall of 11 inches at Martinstown, Dorset, a record set back in July, 1955.

Cork, Ireland has seen 2 feet of rain since Oct. 1, which is three times theirnormal rainfall. The city has had measurable rainfall every day since Oct.

In Scotland, Glasgow has had twice and Aberdeen has had three times theirnormal rainfall since Oct. 1. For the same time period, Belfast, NorthernIreland has seen twice and Manchester, England has seen 1.5 times their normalrainfall.
