A number of downtown Minneapolis streets will be closed Thursday evening as more than 2,500 runners are expected to compete in the Medtronic TC 1 Mile, which features an evening of races for runners of all ages and abilities, promoters say.

For late rush hour commuters, that means finding alternate ways out of downtown.  Some Metro Transit routes also will be impacted.

Here is what streets will be closed and when:

•    Eastbound Dunwoody Blvd. starting at Linden Ave. from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Westbound Dunwoody will remain open
•    I-394 Eastbound exit to Van White Blvd.and Dunwoody Blvd. from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
•    Northbound Lyndale Avenue at the Dunwoody Blvd/Hennepin Avenue intersection from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
•    Hennepin Ave. (both North and Southbound) from 6th Street to Lyndale Ave. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Northbound traffic will be detoured to Marquette Avenue via 15th Street West and First Avenue South. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Second Avenue South via Fourth Street.  For those willing to wait, cross traffic will be allowed to cross between race waves.

The closures will also affect some Metro Transit bus routes during the evening. From 6:15 to 8:30 p.m., bus routes 4, 6 and 12 will run on Hennepin Avenue between Oak Grove St. and Washington Ave.  Route 61 buses will run on Nicollet Mall between 9th Street and Washington Avenue. For more information, see Metro Transit's Rider Alert page.

The light-rail METRO Green and Blue Lines will not be affected by the event.
