Within 12 minutes of the stickup and 600 feet down the street, a 30-year-old gunman sporting an armored vest was arrested after robbing a Roseville bank, authorities said.

The holdup of the North American Bank near Hwy. 36 and Hamline Avenue N. occurred at 11 a.m. Tuesday, when the Crystal man -- his appearance concealed with sunglasses, the hood of his jacket atop his head and his face partly masked -- pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the teller and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

Officers already nearby were called, and they saw a man slamming closed the trunk of a car parked illegally near a residential neighborhood intersection south of the bank, police added.

The man got behind the wheel, then one officer arrived and had his gun trained on the suspect. Police dash-cam video shows the man, his bullet-resistant vest still on, stepping out with his arms raised as a second officer arrives to help with the arrest.

The suspect was taken to police headquarters, where he confessed to FBI agents that he had robbed the bank, according to authorities.

Federal authorities are expected to charge the man by week's end, police said.
