Quick Q&A: Matt Anderson
Stillwater, Sr.
football/ basketball
Anderson broke the all-time scoring record for Stillwater's basketball program earlier this month — and that's not even the sport he plans to play in college. Anderson, a tight end, will head to North Dakota State this fall to suit up for the Bison.
Q At what point did you decide to pursue collegiate football instead of basketball and why?
A For football I was getting a lot more interest from [Division] II and [Division] I level and basketball it was mainly [Division] III, so I just thought I could make more of an impact in football.
Q What did you learn from the recruiting process?
A It was kind of a long, stressful process. It takes a lot out of you, but at the end, it's a fulfilling thing when you finally make the decision for yourself.
Q You changed your commitment from St. Cloud State to North Dakota State. What went into that decision?
A A couple weeks ago, North Dakota State found out they had a player who couldn't play football anymore so then some available scholarship money opened up at the tight end position so they called me up and gave me an offer.
Q Was North Dakota State one of the places you were looking at from the beginning?
A They've been really successful lately, so I was really interested in hearing from them. Especially [because] I went to one of their camps this summer that they hosted for football players.
Q What are your expectations from collegiate football?
A That it's probably going to be hard at first just adjusting to the speed and size of everyone. Especially that first year, it's going to be a lot of catching up and trying to get to the same level they're at.
Q You recently set the program record for points scored. What was that moment like for you?
A It was a really gratifying, fulfilling moment … I felt everything that I put into it had come out to something good.
