Actor Randy Harrison, who made a splash in the Twin Cities last October when he played the Emcee in the touring production of "Cabaret" at the Orpheum Theatre, will be returning to Minneapolis this summer.

Harrison has been cast as the title character in the Guthrie Theater's production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George," the theater has announced. He will act opposite Broadway actor Erin Mackey, who played Nellie in director Joe Haj's production of "South Pacific" last summer.

Harrison's breakout role was in the Showtime series "Queer as Folk." He has also performed in 'Wicked' on Broadway and played Young Tom in Joe Dowling's 2007 revival of Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" at the Guthrie.

Mackey's Broadway credits include "Wicked," "Anything Goes," "Amazing Grace," and, most recently, "In Transit."

Haj will direct "Sunday in the Park with George," about French pointillist painter George Seurat and his lover and muse, Dot (Mackey). The cast for the production, scheduled June 17-Aug. 20, includes such Twin Cities favorites as Sasha Andreev, Cat Brindisi, David Darrow, Ann Michels, Britta Ollmann, Max Wojtanowicz, T. Mychael Rambo and young phenom Natalie Tran.

Two members of the creative team — costume designer Toni-Leslie James and lighting designer Jane Cox — were just nominated for Tonys.
