ZOE AVESTRUZ

Chanhassen • Swimming

The junior was the only swimmer in the recently completed Class 2A meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center to finish undefeated. She won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke for the second year in a row, and her time of 52.96 seconds in the backstroke was more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

She also shone in the relays, where she led off the 200 medley relay with a blazing 24.45 backstroke split. The Storm won the race in a record time of 1:41.96, demolishing the previous record of 1:43.50 they set in the preliminaries.

Avestruz then battled nerves in swimming the anchor leg of the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay, her 50.11 split helping Chanhassen to another meet-record time of 3:25.69. Chanhassen finished fifth in the meet with a team score of 197 points.
