Gophers freshman forward Leon Bristedt will make his college hockey debut on the first line Friday night at Mariucci Arena.

Bristedt is one of two Swedish-born skaters part of the freshman class. His debut has been delayed from a two-game penalty result of a pro playing two games with his Swedish junior hockey team.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding this rookie. His teammates have praised his skill level and coach Don Lucia said he's a natural scorer. Bristedt has been a key figure for Sweden Junior National Teams since he was 16.

He'll skate with sophomore big man Hudson Fasching and senior captain Kyle Rau. Fasching also made his college debut on the first line a year ago.

My feature this week takes a look at how this year's talented freshmen fit into a team full of returning talent. Also check out details and video from Wednesday's access and watch RandBall and me preview the season.

• SERIES PREVIEW: BEMIDJI STATE AT NO. 1 GOPHERS

Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.

TV/radio/live stream: Big Ten Network on Friday and FSN Plus on Saturday; 1500-AM both nights; BTN2Go both nights.

Gophers at a glance: The Gophers (2-0-0) are anxious to get into a rhythm. An odd early season schedule has college hockey's No. 1 team feeling like the season is starting over this week. The lack of games will mean more changes in line combinations throughout the series. The Gophers will unveil their 2014 Big Ten regular-season championship banner during Friday's pregame ceremonies. Saturday's game will include a ceremony honoring Mike Reilly, a first team All-America defenseman last season.
