Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia is having a precautiionary MRI done on his right knee - at least the Twins call it precautionary. Arcia banged his knee before Monday's game and hasn't played since - and it doesn't make sense for him to play if he's hobbled in any way. What's the point, Just play whomever is healthy and lets the get the season over with.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland is not moving off his stance that Ron Gardenhire is an excellent manager. ``I have the utmost respect for Ron Gardenhire," Leyland said. Gardy has a lot of support across the league and would not have to look long or hard to find another job if he's let go after this year. A report in the Chicago Tribune suggested that Gardenhire would land with the Cubs, a club that seeks a manager who can win and develop.

Torii Hunter has his goggles ready in case the Tigers clinch the division tonight. Cleveland must lose and the Tigers must win for that to happen.

Josh Willingham is not in the lineup either. Gardy indicated that Willingham was, ah, er.....discombobulated from last night's at-bats against Justin Verlander

Righthander Mike Pelfrey has made his final start of the season. Scott Diamond will pitch the final game of the season on Sunday.

Scouts from teams in the postseason are filling the pressbox, doing advance work on the Tigers. I remember when I used to write the, `Twins begin scouting playoff opponents' story in September. Seems like a long time ago.....
